Mom and on-air personality, Saskia Falken will be leading the crowd with her energetic toddler Ella St. Claire to raise funds for less fortunate children. "I am proud to be associated with such an event that gives moms an opportunity to take time out of their busy schedules to give back to the community whilst having fun at the same time." says Saskia. She continues by saying the she trusts that this initiative will continue to grow from strength to strength.
Already in its third year the Mommy and Me Walk, in association with Toys R Us, Canal Walk and People's Post, last year raised more than R R25 000 for the St Joseph's Home and the Canal Walk Foundation. Over and above funds raised, the moms collected a huge bag of toys for the needy.
This year's funds will once again go to one of the Canal Walk Foundations' charities as well as the AIDS/HIV Sunflower Unit at St Josephs Home in Montana, just off the N2 in the Western Cape. The St Josephs Home is a home for children with chronic medical conditions who require ongoing nursing and rehabilitative care.
Pre-registration will take place at Canal Walk from Friday 29 April to Friday 6 May from 9:00 till 21:00 next to the information desk close to entrance 1 where moms will receive their walk number. Entry is R35 per mom and R5 per child. Only 1000 moms can unfortunately partake in the walk. Entries will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
The walk starts at 07:45 and moms are advised to arrive early to be one of the lucky 500 mommies to receive goodie bags. There will be plenty of entertainment before and after the race. The famous CBeebies Fimbles from DStv channel 306 will make their appearance with dancers and a prize giving as well as balloon artist, a stilt walker and face painting.
Paul Playdon and DJ Suga will broadcast live from the food court from 10am to 12pm and Phat Joe and other Heart 104.9FM personalities will be participating on the day.
