“Heart 104.9FM's acquisition of Phat Joe shows that the station is serious about representing the richness and diversity of culture in the Mother City. This calibre radio personality with a national profile further elevates the station beyond the borders of Cape Town,” says Gavin Meiring, Managing Director at Heart 104.9FM.
He continues by saying that “with more than 14 years broadcasting experience behind him, Joe comes with a broadcasting pedigree and comedic background you won't find anywhere else in South Africa. He is outspoken, witty, entertaining and will no doubt make sure you get your dose of good laughs every morning,” says Meiring.
Phat Joe was one of the pioneering DJs at YFM who contributed to the success of the station. This led to the launch of “Phat Joe Live” on e.tv and SABC 1 after which he moved on to Metro FM and most recently Kaya FM where he dominated the Gauteng airwaves. He is no stranger to Cape Town either as he was based here whilst studying at the University of Cape Town. Phat Joe is very excited about the prospect of this move to Cape Town. “I am looking forward to kicking ass and contributing to people's lives by getting into exciting dialogue with Cape Town. I have always had wonderful support from the Mother City since my days on e.tv and this gives me an opportunity to reconnect."
Phat Joe (Majota Kambule) will be joined by the equally outspoken Nick Feinberg as sports anchor and traffic anchor Julian Naidoo. This team will no doubt have a chemistry second to none, offering listeners only the best in Cape Town breakfast radio.
Other changes in store for the station include Lee Downs moving back to the Afternoon Drive show in which he dominated Cape Town afternoons in 2007, and Clarence Ford moving to the midday slot from 12 - 3pm.
