Little heart girl on her way home

On the morning of Maricelle Smith's release from Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital, after spending more than a month there, Heart 104.9FM's Bokomo Hearty Breakfast team with Lee Downs visited her in hospital, bearing gifts and best wishes from Cape Town.

Whilst in the hospital the staff asked her what her biggest wish is and she said a silver Samsung phone and a visit by Heart 104.9FM. That's just what the Easter Bunny brought her this Easter. The team presented her with her very own Samsung phone from Samtec as well as Easter Eggs and gifts.

Maricelle (13) was the first child in Africa to receive an artificial heart on Valentine's Day this year in a six-hour transplant operation in the Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital. When asked how she feels she smiles saying humbly that she feels much better. “Just a bit shaky,” she says.

Maricelle also requested to cross live to the Heart 104.9FM studios where she thanked all the Capetonians and South Africans for their support during this time. She also thanked the nursing staff and the orderlies at Christiaan Barnard and ended off by saying that the nurses mustn't sleep during the day.

Visiting her in hospital was Lee Downs (presenter), Marguerita Freeks (traffic reporter), Jeremy Harris (sports reporter), Lee-Ann Arendse (news anchor) and Baydu Adams (producer).
