In a first for radio in South Africa, Cape Town's Mayor, Helen Zille, will be hosting her own slot on popular Cape-based radio station, Heart 104.9.
On the last Monday of every month between 18h00 and 18h30 on Natalie Becker's show "Street Life", the Mayor of the city will be talking about issues that affect Capetonians. She'll be personally taking calls from listeners, who now have direct access to the person who has promised to work for you!
The show kicks off on Monday, 31st July, with residents of Cape Town encouraged to voice their concerns about issues that affect them.
Says Gavin Meiring, MD of Heart 104.9: "We got the idea after hearing about British Prime Minister Tony Blair presenting his own show on LBC in London which was a huge hit. Instead of being a guest on the show we hand the reins over to the Mayor to present and interact with the listeners on a one on one level, which is what radio is all about."
