Powderfinger to play one gig in Cape Town

The Australian band Powderfinger is coming to South Africa for one night only, as part of their Sunset Farewell Tour. Cape Town indie rock band Taxi Violence will be supporting them on 15 June, 2010, at the Assembly, Cape Town.

The five-piece band, which formed in Brisbane in 1989, have released eight albums over a 21-year career. Their rock 'n' roll sound and Fanning's distinctive vocals won the band 16 ARIA awards, three APRA Awards and many of their albums have reached multiple platinum status.

The guitar-driven rock band consists of five members: vocalist, guitarist, keyboardist and harmonicist Bernard Fanning, bass guitarist John Collins, guitarist and backing vocalist Ian Haug, guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist Darren Middleton, and drummer and percussionist Jon Coghill.

This will be Powderfinger's first major tour for almost three years.
