All aboard for SA

The United Kingdom's based RTL Games is set to launch the board game "Destination South Africa", based on the award-winning taxi game "Destination London" that has been "giving Monopoly a run for its money".

The game, to be released before the end of the year, will introduce players to 45 South African locations that best convey the beauty and diversity of the country.

This offers a fun, interactive way for people abroad, and at home, to get to know South Africa better.

According to RTL Games' Andre de Wet, the game sees players competing against each other using taxis with the winner visiting the most places and collecting the most fares.

"Destination SA is to be sold and positioned not only for South Africans," he told SouthAfrica.info.

De Wet explained that the inclusion of website links, contact numbers and as much additional information as possible to the various destinations would make Destination SA not just a fun family game, but an interactive guide to the beauty of the country.

"The taxis featured will also be in true SA spirit, looking like any one of the hundreds of people carriers you encounter every day."

RTL Games also has plans for a Destination 2010 board game, which will focus on South Africa hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

According to the game's website, it was created by Rachel Lowe, who made a living by driving a cab around the streets of Portsmouth to support her two young children.

While out on a shift, Lowe had an idea for a board game called Destination, where players' pieces were miniature taxis and the aim was to collect fares from famous destinations across the city.

There are now 15 versions of the Destination game, featuring cities like New York, Paris, Dublin and Birmingham. Destination Las Vegas and Destination Hollywood are also scheduled for release in 2007.

RTL Games is also working on Destination Animation, which features characters from Disney's animated films, and has secured a deal to create a Destination Hogwarts, based on British author JK Rowling's successful Harry Potter book series.
