The winners in the six categories are: Ayanda Ntsingana for an architectural piece entitled Laingsburg Public Pool; Bokang Lehobe for a fashion piece named The Beast We Call Fashion; Anri and Andre Coetzee for film called Lilith: Genesis; Martin Bolton and Craig Tyndall for an industrial design entitled Concrete T L Speaker; Chris van Rensburg for a jewellery piece called Solid Curves; and Mhlonishwa Chiliza for a sculptured piece entitled Dreaming In Hopelessness.
Merit Awards were handed out in five of the six categories. Category winners include Sumaiya Bhayat for her film entitled Shepstone; Luxolo Jita for fashion design Life; Denise Andrews for a jewellery piece called We Built This City; Taswald Pillay for an architectural piece named Zandspruit Learning Centre; and, finally, Karma Bosman for a sculptured worked entitled Black Hole Duality.
Judged by a super jury of leading industry personalities, each category winner receives R50,000 while the runner-up walks away with R15,000. Each category winner stands a further chance to receive the overall grand prize of R100,000. In addition to the monetary incentives, category winners received opportunities and mentorship from various thought leaders in their respective industries. These leaders includes trend forecaster Dion Chang; writer and film director Hanneke Schutte; artist and printmaker Diane Victor; architects Mokena Makeka and Ora Joubert; Adriaan Hugo, industrial designer; Wessel van Huyessteen, documentary filmmaker; and contemporary jewellery designer Marchand van Tonder, among others.
The winning designs will be on display at the Design Indaba in Cape Town (27 February to 1 March, 2015) and thereafter the overall PPC Imaginarium winner will be announced at the Young Blood Art Gallery in Cape Town on 5 March, 2015, forming part of the Mother City's popular First Thursdays event.
