The Childline Sunlight Safe House Project offers a safe haven to a number of abused and abandoned children who are placed into care during times of crisis. Currently, 88 moms in communities around Gauteng provide a safe environment for 176 children.

Spokesperson for Sunlight, Caroline Clayton says the brand's involvement with the Safe House Project is especially significant as South Africans are faced with rising statistics of child abuse.

"The brand traditionally embodies values such as warmth, caring, nurturing and providing quality for one's family. These values are in keeping with the Safe House Project's aim to create an environment of trust and caring for children in crisis."

Lynn Cawood, Gauteng director of Childline, says the funding has allowed Childline to continue with special projects. "We remain extremely appreciative of the Unilever donation and know that South Africans sleep better at night knowing that these funded safe houses provide after-hours services for children in difficult situations."
