The Rat Pack - Live on Long Street

The Rat Pack was the epitome of suave, slick style. Consisting of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Junior and others, they took the world by storm in the 1960's and now, from 3 to 30 August 2009, glitzy Las Vegas will come to Cape Town when a group of hip, cool, wisecracking cats swagger onto the NewSpace stage.

The next best thing to the original slick trio is a South African cast of singers, featuring Patrick Tobin, an American impersonator from New York City as Ol' Blue Eyes, and local talent Matthew Stewardson as Dean and Dantanio Goodman as Sammy. Audiences can look forward to an entertaining evening with these whisky-swigging legends,as they recreate the era of swing, jazz and rock 'n roll, complete with a white-hot seven-piece big band. Expect to hear favourites such as Fly me to the Moon, Mack the Knife, I Only Have Eyes for You and My Way, brought to life by these dynamic performers who will transport you back to the Vegas of yesteryear.

The Rat Pack concept originated in the 1950s, anchored around Humphrey Bogart, and by the '60s the group included Frank, Dean and Sammy, as well as Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford. They and their music have become immortal, with the recent remake of the Ocean's 11,12 and 13 movies as well as artists such as Robbie Williams and Michael Bublé, helping to repopularise the genre among younger generations.
