Soweto Wine and Lifestyle Festival returns

From 3-5 March 2017, the Soweto Theatre will host the 12th edition of the Soweto Wine and Lifestyle Festival, brainchild of Mnikelo Mangciphu, owner of the Morara Wine and Spirit Emporium, and Cape Wine Master, Marilyn Cooper, former CEO of the Cape Wine Academy.

The festival will bring together winemakers, artisan chefs, designers, crafters and entrepreneurs in a three day cultural experience, unique to Soweto. It will showcase the best, and emerging South African wines, foods, travel, music, artisanal merchandise and more.

What to expect

Attendees are invited to experience the wines of the Cape; a choice of holidays and weekends away offered by travel retailers; a selection of gastronomies to suit all varieties and tastes from top-shelf restaurants, local bistros and food vendors; as well as music from Soweto’s famous set.

With its new, summertime slot, the festival introduces daytime wine and food tastings, VIP spaces and places, and outdoor cook-off type activities.

The festival is known for having transformed the South African wine industry, removing old customs, and developing a large discerning, well-educated, wine-drinking culture over the past decade.

The festival was originally designed to bring Cape wines into Johannesburg’s largest township, Soweto, which is known for its trendsetting values and people, to expose this magnificent movement to the country’s oldest unique wine etiquettes and cultures.
