Two new white wines exhibit unusual tastes

Weltevrede has released a Vanilla Chardonnay and Muratie has released its first flagship white wine, the Muratie Laurens Campher 2010.
Two new white wines exhibit unusual tastes

The Weltevrede, using Chardonnay grapes from Karoo limestone terrain, is fermented with selected light oak. Philip Jonker says reports vary from vanilla, hints of butterscotch or English toffee, crème brûlée, honey, coconut or crème caramel and asks consumers to go online and share their experiences. It is available nationally at leading wine retailers, retailing at around R45.

The Laurens Campher 2010 is a blend of 39% Chenin Blanc, 32% Sauvignon Blanc, 24% Verdelho and 5% Chardonnay. All cultivars, except the Sauvignon Blanc, were barrel fermented with 60% of the wine matured in new French oak barrels and the rest in second-fill barrels. Offering flavours ranging from honeysuckle to pineapple, it retails nationally at ±R125.
