You FM commemorates the #PhenomenalWomanInYOU

As part of our Women's Month content feature, You FM launched the campaign #PhenomenalWomanInYou.
This is a series of conversations with phenomenal women within their respective industries; intended to share inspirational stories and advice young women interested in those fields. This campaign is a subtle way to tackle issues that affect women, varying from topics of social and economic dynamics, inequality in the workplace/ in society, and the scourge of gender-based violence.

The Women’s Month celebrations will span throughout the four weeks period of the month. Each week You FM will be paying tribute 2 phenomenal women whose commitment and tenacity continue to inspire young women. The campaign will roll out on the 09:00-12:00 show, You Before Noon hosted by “Bonolo” Beesting Molosiwa.

The line-up boasts of Women from all walks of life, popular and rising stars to international guests. Our listeners can expect to gain insight on SA’s media mogul Carol Bower, the princess of Africa Mama Yvonne Chaka Chaka to RnB soulful singer, Syleena Johnson; to name a few.

You FM Station manager, Amu Mathevula, said “It is important for us as a station to observe and celebrate our phenomenal women. This campaign is not something we only do in Women’s Month, but women are celebrated here at home every day and equality is something we take very seriously,” said Mathevula.

The Launch of Walk Away – a song against Gender based violence.

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a profound and widespread problem in our country. GBV is systemic, and deeply entrenched in institutions, cultures and traditions in South Africa. The song aims to encourage our Mothers, Sisters and Girls to Walk Away ,urging women to continue to fight the increasing gender-based violence and femicide.

This past Sunday 9 August 2020, on Women’s Day during Brunch with YOU (10am-2pm), the song “Walk Away” was launched, performed live at our studios and streamed live. The song is produced by our very own HipHop show host TowdeeMac, performed by BeeSting, Lection and Kamohelo Lereko. Lereko is a young up and coming lady who won the YOUFM Open Mic competition.
