Music lovers of all ages came together on the first day of Mix Fest to celebrate the best South African music has to offer. Under glorious sunshine and clear blue skies, The Color Blew opened the festival on Saturday morning, followed by the lovely Shotgun Tori and blues rock band, Wolfgang Marrow. Local rockers Shortstraw took to the stage next, just before indie kids Desmond & The Tutus and rock legends The Black Cat Bones. Rubber Duc was up next with CrashCarBurn serenading the crowd just before stalwarts Watershed led them into the evening. Jeremy Loops followed, with thousands gathering for one of the most loved bands in South Africa, Mango Groove. Brent Harris and Kurt Darren got everyone dancing, and what a better way to end one of the best local line-ups than with the band which changed a generation, Spring Bok Nude Girls all the way from Cape Town.
With nearly 4,000 people attending Mix Fest 2019 over the course of the two days, the festive spirit was in full swing and a mutual love for local music was evidently shared by all. Throughout the day, the Mix 93.8 FM DJs performed at the Silent Disco, with all proceeds of the disco as well as a portion of all ticket sales going to The Rotary Club for deaf-awareness month.
Chllfctry brought the chilled vibes by opening the festival on Sunday morning, followed by Jerry & The Bandits. Michael Lesar closed the festival with a two hour swing set for those still dancing after two days of non-stop top entertainment.“I couldn’t be more proud of Mix Fest 2019! Were there hiccups?
