The 2010 event, see's Heart 104.9FM partner with leading 24-hour convenience store brand, Freshstop, to not only celebrate the beginning of Spring but also to highlight Lifesaving Western Province (LWP) and the great work that they do and to help raise awareness for water safety.
Brian Coppin, co-founder and managing director of Freshstop says, "We see our emphasis on fresh matched with celebrating the start of Spring as the perfect marriage. He adds, "We look forward to taking the first dip of Spring with the Heart 104.9FM family, listeners and celebrities and encourage locals to come out and support the event."
Vernon Adams, Programming Manager at Heart 104.9FM says, "This year marks the third annual Spring Dip event, we are proud to highlight the work of the brave volunteers who watch over our beaches. Spring Dip is more than a fun event, it is a day where we honour our lifesavers and make the public aware of water safety as the Western Cape prepares for summer. Spring Dip kicks off this partnered water safety awareness campaign that we will extend throughout our summer broadcasts".
Lifesaving Western Province is a non-profit volunteer based organisation that oversees all surf lifesaving activities in the greater Cape Town area and provides a volunteer lifeguarding service to all beach goers of Cape Town. "Over the 2009/10 season, lifeguards performed an estimated 40 000 voluntary duty hours, rescued 673 beach goers and treated 1015 first aid cases," says Keith Matthews, Public Relations practitioner for LWP.
Heart 104.9FM Phat Joe Breakfast Show team and Freshstop invite locals to join Vanessa Haywood, Claire Phillips, and Chad Saaiman at the Spring Dip to show their support of Lifesaving Western Province. The festivities start at 6am and the official dip is scheduled for 08:20am, 1 September 2010.
