Heart 104.9FM launches its “Sound of Summer” on Monday 6 October, which includes changes to its personality line-up, and a range of sizzling new features and cash giveaways.
The seasonly “hot” new-look sound sees “Big” Stan Mars return to the lunchtime hot seat with Big Stan's Big Lunch from 12-3 on weekdays. The show will be a laid-back, light hearted midday break with Stan's Big Lunchbox offering listeners the chance to request songs and send messages live on air for half an hour over from 1pm.
Vern Adams, the station's Programme Manager says, “Our audience has always been the most important part of our product, and this is another opportunity for them to own the airwaves and share their lunchtime a little with friends and family.”
Stan's move creates a space for the much-loved Diggy Bongz to join the weekday line-up. Diggy's shift to evening prime time is packaged with a change in focus for the station after sunset. In The Mix With Diggy Bongz from 7 to 10 p.m. will be a listener-driven request feast that will see Heart 104.9FM focussing more on contemporary music, and introducing features aimed specifically at younger adult listeners.
“The Sound of Summer” will see a shift in music emphasis across the station to give prominence to classic summer holiday hits and a more up-tempo overall sound.
Adams believes this is what the city wants as the season shifts. “It won't be a radical change at all. Cape Town in summer is always a celebration, and we are Cape Town Soul.”
Heart 104.9FM is also extending the Afternoon Drive show to 6:30pm to keep pace with the longer days, and longer drive times which invariably happen as Cape Town welcomes thousands of summer holidaymakers. This will include additional Timesaver Traffic reports, and see their highly successful evening features with business consultants and clairvoyants brought into the mainstream.
Along with these changes, Monday also sees the much anticipated re-launch of the Heart Payroll competition, with thousands of rands up for grabs in every daytime show.
