FCB JHB reaches out

FCB Johannesburg continues to reach out and 'touch' the community as part of its corporate social outreach initiative.

As part of FCB Johannesburg's Corporate Social Outreach programme, the agency recently hosted a movie day for the children of the Yeoville Educare Centre in Johannesburg. Yeoville does not have the same community support structure as is found in the large townships - like Soweto - and the children have nowhere to go during the day when their parents are out at work, or looking for work. YEC is the only nursery, aftercare and pre-school facility in the area for 70 children who all come from financially and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. Most of the children are from single parent homes and HIV/TB affixed households, mostly domestic workers, street hawkers and unemployed people looking for work. Cinemark kindly made the DVD 'Shark Tale' available for screening in the agency's auditorium, and the 70 children were bussed in from Yeoville. Hot dogs and juice were served for lunch, and then popcorn, also donated by Cinemark, was handed out to nibble while watching the show. All in all it was a really fun afternoon.
