Being a schedule two state-owned entity, reporting to the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, IDT has a mandate to implement and deliver critically-needed social infrastructure programmes on behalf of the government. With the responsibility of such government projects, the short course presented by the Department of Construction Economics, University of Pretoria (UP) saw the opportunity for delegates to equip themselves with experience required to apply three of the 10 Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) areas, namely Quality Management, Risk Management and Time Management, directly to the construction and built environments.

Furthermore, to ensure delegates successfully earn professional credit towards the Comprehensive Project Management Programme for Built Environment Practitioners (CPMP), a combination of international knowledge and local expertise was implemented. Vernon Cotriet, Bernard Vorster and Kobus Aytes, private specialists in the field, facilitated key focus areas like construction contracts, project reporting, project construction, etc.

As a result of the skills knowledge and expertise acquired during the short course, IDT delegates, ranking from different management levels from across the country, commended the hospitality and service quality rendered by Enterprises UP during the week.

“I would encourage all of us at IDT, irrespective of levels, especially technical team, to get this training as it will help to manage our programmes better,” said Phumlani Mdleleni, acting regional general manager – Eastern Cape.

“The course has been informative, a nice venue and adequate parking and central to where we stay. The facilitators were well-equipped and patient with us. There were many informative group discussions, and the course material is of sufficient nature to support us. It is also very helpful that we can download the course material,” said Fanus Lewis, portfolio manager of IDT Regional Office in Limpopo.

“To ensure that the IDT’s professionals are always abreast with developments in the built environment sector as well as the requirements by the built environment professional body councils, the IDT will continue to invest in training. We are working well with Enterprises UP. Their level of professionalism is appreciated,” said Nditsheni Raliphada, senior manager: human resources development.
