The award recognises and celebrates TSiBA Eden for its innovations in opening tertiary education opportunities to South African youth from severely disadvantaged and under-resourced areas of South Africa, so they can become self-sufficient citizens and ultimately break the cycle of poverty riddling their communities.

Delivering his keynote address, Western Cape Minister of Social Development Albert Fritz emphasised the need to acknowledge the talents and initiatives involving young people across the province and the importance of encouraging and promoting best practices in youth development.

"In the context of the spirit and intention of the newly-launched Western Cape Premier's Awards programme, it is a privilege for TSiBA Eden to be acknowledged for its vision and to be in the company of so many inspiring community development projects that specifically target the marginalised yet talented youth in our cities, small towns and rural areas. And being a part of this network allows TSiBA to share ideas and knowledge directly with the province's youth affected by our country's challenges, as many of these award-wining programmes were founded and initiated by the youth themselves - as TSiBA was some 11 years ago", said TSiBA Eden Executive Director, Sandy Ueckermann.

TSiBA Eden is a rural campus located in the rural village of Karatara, near Knysna, offering a Certificate in Practical Business Administration (CPBA). The campus also offers green entrepreneurial bridging and skills development programmes that serve rural communities in the Southern Cape and beyond.
