Vaal Meander Wine Route brings the winelands to Gauteng

The Vaal River Meander Wine Route, which celebrates its sixth anniversary this year, brings the finest in South African food and wine to the Vaal region.

The Vaal Meander Wine Route is an annual festival where over 200 of South Africa's best wines from 50 vineyards and estates are on display. The event runs from Meyerton to Vanderbijlpark between 5 June and 25 July, and gives visitors the opportunity to taste the finest of South Africa's wine industry.

The Vaal Meander Wine Route takes place over weekends at more than a dozen venues along the Vaal River, ranging from pubs to outdoor restaurants, and has proven to be excellent entertainment during the winter months. Visitors are also able to purchase bottles of wine at preferential prices.

The Vaal Meander Wine Route was kicked off by the Wine and Food Show at the Emerald Resort & Casino. The Wine and Food Show not only featured the best of the South African wine industry, but also artisan cheeses and treats from top local chefs.

Says Carl Woodland, chief operating officer for Oasys Exhibitions, the infrastructure supplier of choice for the show: "We supplied the shell scheme for the Wine and Food Show, the electrical infrastructure and carpeting; a total area of 477m2. Oasys also built the registration area and supplied furniture."

"2010 is the third year that the Wine Route was launched with a Show, which evolved from the Wine Show in 2008, to the Wine and Cheese Show in 2009 and now the Wine and Food Show," says Willie Swart, Events Co-ordinator for Emerald Resort & Casino.

"The Wine and Food Show was the perfect kick-off to a festival that is fast becoming an annual favourite in Gauteng," says Swart.
