Guerrilla IMC introduces innovative new media platform: a 'Cab'tivating advertising solution!

It's late, all you can think of is getting home, crawling into your bed and waiting for the onset of the inevitable hangover. It's been a great night out with friends and you are shattered! Only one thing left to do: "Sorry mister cab driver, could you stop at the nearest ATM so I can draw some cash to pay you?"

Now I am not saying only party animals use cabs, quite the opposite in fact. Not having cash also applies to business people making use of a taxi-cab service to get to and from the airport on a business trip with back to back meetings! Or a tourist visiting South Africa for the first time, who will use a cab for the driver's local knowledge and because it is one of the easiest ways to get around.

In this modern day semi-cashless society it is ridiculous to expect people to have cash in their pockets to pay for a cab trip that could quite easily cost over R300. Not only is it a security risk but it is just bothersome to have to make sure you have enough local currency on you at all times to be able to catch a cab.

Enter Guerrilla IMC with "Metered Media". This 15cm in-cab, touch screen console will now be able to accept debit- and credit card payments (as well as the traditional cash payment system). This is a FIRST IN SOUTH AFRICA! The system has been used in the USA for a number of years now and is successfully employed in major cities like New York, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, with over 20,000 units installed in cabs across the USA. Resulting in over 8.7million views a month! This system has also been successfully used in Singapore, Turkey and London.

Now you wouldn't think that South Africa is a big cab using society - and you would be mistaken. There are an estimated 4,000 registered cabs in service across the country; each of which makes an average of 15 trips a day, carrying one to two passengers per trip - simple mathematics puts the average number of customers at 2.7 million a month!

Many of the major cab companies have already show interest in the system and will be installing as soon as they it becomes available. The expected number of cabs by the end of 2011 is around 500, and by the end of 2012 - 2,000 cabs with an average of over 1 million passengers a month!

That is a lot of upper LSM consumers!

Guerrilla IMC in conjunction with iMobilise has been working tirelessly on getting the system into South Africa for over two years, we now have the support of Nedbank and Vodacom to ensure all transactions are safe and secure! Both companies have market leading security measures in place to protect customers and their banking information. So you can rest assured you only pay for the trip you take.

"Having put a lot of research and fine tuning into the system, we are looking at a launch in June 2011. Until now 20 cabs have been used in a pilot project (Cape Town and Johannesburg) to iron out any issues and we are almost there..."

This system offers convenience to passengers and also offers a great 'Cab'tive market for advertisers. The screens can be used for showing video, static images and as they are equipped with speakers advertisers can "speak" to their consumers!

Being a touch screen and integrated into the cab billing system ensures that commuters have to use the screen - guaranteed eye-balls on the screen, which is great news for advertisers! Commuters will interact with advertising like never before. An added benefit to advertisers is the extensive reporting system that is available for advertisers. It is possible to see when and how many times the advertisement was shown as well as how the trip was paid for (with credit or debit cards). From that information we can draw a very clear picture of the individual using the cab and therefore seeing the ads. Brilliant!

So next time you hail a cab, look out for one with "Metered-Media", both entertaining and practical!
