I had the privilege of attending the two-day festival on the Saturday where thousands of festival goers, under the blistering Jozi sun, were treated to the sounds of South African artists - Lira, Prime Circle, Danny K, Mi Casa, Khuli Chana, BlackByrd and Household Funk.
In addition to the entertainment, foodies had the opportunity to explore the Checkers Food Experience, watch DStv Celebrity Chef cook-offs and the Ocean Basket Sushi Bar. You name it, there was something for everyone, even the kids. I must add that the venue was perfect - spacious with no real over-crowding, well, besides the bar area which is always the case.
I eventually made my way up the hill to the VIP tent, which was quite a distance from the stage. I was expecting the VIP tent to be closer to the stage. The only perks about being in the VIP tent was having to hide away from the harsh sun.
I didnt mingle too long in this area and decided to headed down to the main area where the real festival vibe was happening.
I'm pretty sure that the main reason the majority of the festival goers came out to the festival was to see the acid jazz/funk band, Jamiroquai.
Boy, oh Boy! Did he bring the beat performing popular hits such as Virtual Insanity, Canned Heat, Cosmic Girl, Deeper Underground, Space Cowboy and many many more. Jay Kay, as he is known, brought the energy to stage by bringing his funky moves.
After all these years, he still knows how to move! Yes, he did his famous 'twisting of the legs' jump. One thing that was missing, was his trademark headdress! I'm sure I wasn't the only one expecting him to don the feather like creation as we know him to have. Instead, he opted to wear a hat but still dressing funky.
All in all, the festival was an amazing experience and it's been reported that the organisers are already planning to make it a bi-annual Summer and Winter festival that will take place back to back in Johannesburg and Cape Town in 2014.
